Summary

Liver transplantation is the best treatment option for patients with end-stage liver disease with the purpose to increase survival, but having repercussions on biological, psychological and social levels. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of life of transplant patients at Liver Transplant Unit for over 10 years. We conducted the survey in the outpatient clinic of UTF University Hospital Oswaldo Cruz (HUOC). As a tool for data collection, we used the questionnaire adapted from the international quality of life, SF 36, and evaluation of physical, cognitive and emotional functioning, not including the spiritual dimension. We interviewed 17 patients over 18 years, 59%10 were male, and 35% had the diagnosis of hepatitis C. According to the survey, 70% of patients had no complaints limitation in daily activities and overall they realize with good health. It follows that the transplant provides patient with the extension of the lifetime quality. The identification of factors that negatively influence quality of life can contribute to the planning care interventions, which can help to improve health and quality of life of these individuals.
