Summary

Brain death diagnosis - total and irreversible failure of brain activity - requires careful clinical and laboratory evaluation of the patient in order to set him a potential donor. In this sense, we highlight the work of nurses and his team in maintaining this patient. This study deals with a literature review about the theme in question, constructed from categories related to nursing care against the potential donor. It follows, therefore, that nursing care based on pathophysiological knowledge and the potential donor’s needs is crucial to the viability of organs and the success of the donation.
